I am not against the SSPX Declaration. However, the overriding issue for me and CMRI Sedevacantists is this: The SSPX says that ALL of the post-Vatican II popes are all valid. The Church prior to Pacelli definitively taught that heretics, schismatics, and apostates are NOT Catholics and not members of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. Such men can NEVER become valid popes. That said, the SSPX says that these very men must be recognized and commemorated in the Canon of the Mass. So heretics can be valid popes according to the Society. If they hold this position, it necessarily makes them schismatics and heretics for holding to the condemned heresy of Gallicanism. That makes the Society and their followers heretical and schismatic. That is the only logical outcome. WHY will the SSPX not explain how their position is not in contradiction to the dogmatic teaching of the Church!? This unanswered question is why I eventually left the SSPX and went over to the CMRI. Additionally, the SSPX recognizes the Novus Ordo Mass as valid but illicit- whatever that means. And, for the icing on the theological cake, they also recognize Novus Ordo Holy Orders as valid. How can the SSPX honestly teach the laity that a heretic is a valid pope, but then tell the same laity that they must recognize a heretic as pope and at the same time RESIST him?! The Vatican is now using this heresy of R&R against the Society by declaring upcoming excommunications because they’re resisting Peter- the same man the Society says is most definitely pope! Someone please explain to me how I could possibly support the SSPX using actual Church teachings to refute what I am saying. I’m waiting…
The SSPX takes the very simple and straightforward position that it is not in a position, or lacks authority, to decide whether or not the men occupying the chair of Peter are antipopes or not. Indeed, if they did so, they would very much appear as if they were establishing a parallel hierarchy to the one that, at least on paper (materially), has valid apostolicity. They acknowledge what everyone can see: there is a problem, and that this is the crisis in the Church. But their solution is not to judge for themselves which members of the hierarchy should be declared inside and outside the Church. Their stated mission has always been to preserve Tradition until the crisis in the Church can be resolved. They are not REQUIRED to decide or declare that anyone is not the Pope when the apostolicity of their offices reasonably appears to be valid. Their perceived "resistance" is simply an exercise of the virtue of obedience that prevents them from conforming to the teachings of those ostensibly in authority when those teachings are at odds with the known higher authority. Something, by the way, every single Sedevacantist at one point in time decided as well. The Sede just took the extra step to declare the Chair of Peter vacant, as a result of their analysis, to retroactively justify their perceived disobedience.

There is no “Sedes” group and ignorant commentators are using an invented category as a shibboleth. A lot of people recognize JPII as a valid, if flawed, Pope while denouncing the patently illicit election of Leo. Circumstances vary. There might be someone who considers all post Pope Pius XII pontiffs as invalid, but I have never met him.

As a Catholic we must respect the Chair of Peter. As a Catholic we may not always agree with, nor are we required to, if and when that pope is deviating from the Magisterium of the Church as handed to Peter and ultimately to the apostles.
To give an example countries have presidents, kings etc…..As a citizen of that country you may not like who is your leader but you still must respect the office!
The same holds for the Bride of Christ whose VISIBLE head is the Pope. We may not agree with his messages…we may see the apostasy and heresy…..but we MUST give respect for the Chair upon which he sits!
Yes, the Vatican II “popes” all supported and enforced Vatican II and everything that came out of it. None of them over the past sixty plus years did anything to stop or reverse it. The SSPX, unfortunately, prays for antipopes in the Canon of the Mass. Doing so makes their priests schismatics for praying for a heretic who, according to defined Church doctrine, can never be a valid pope. Each Mass a Society priest offers in this way is a mortal sin on the priest. The error is already a condemned heresy (R&R) which is a form of Gallicanism. SSPX will not admit that Sede view is correct. That is the sad part. They (and the laity who attend their chapels think that Lefebvre is a saint. However, Lefebvre never went to the logical and only conclusion that all of the post Vatican II popes were all antipopes. He even expelled several of his priests who pleaded with him to rightly take the Sedevacantist’s position. That was Lefebvre’s catastrophic error. It has plagued the Society since its inception.
Recognize & Resist. It it a form of the condemned heresy of Gallicanism. The SSPX insists that heretics can be materially popes without the gift of papal infallibility. This too is a heresy. That is because heretics, schismatics, and apostates are not only NOT members of the Church, but can never be valid popes. Hope that helps!
The big question is "when does error become heresy". The R&R position is definitely not Catholic. The post-VII popes (or 'popes') did not teach the Catholic faith, at least, the Catholic faith whole and entire.
But were they heretics? Did they decide to substitute "something else" for the Catholic rule of faith, or were they deceived into believing the Catholic rule of faith was other than what it was?
It is absolutely clear and self-confessed that Idolator George and Idolator Bob are heretics. For Benedict XVI / Ratzinger (both before and after the council) and JPII the answer is less clear; I don't know enough about Paul VI to comment.
Benedict in particular is famous for his "hermeneutic of continuity"... which would appear on the surface to prove that he believed he was 'developing' and not 'replacing'.
This makes the charge of heresy against even the JP2 pontificate even more serious. And this further strengthens the case for a declaration that we are dealing with *sede vacante*.
While I have personally avoided that *declaration*, one cannot avoid the knowledge or agreeability of the possibility of sede vacante under this circumstance, though one would defer judgement to ecclesial authority for such a pronouncement.
I am not a Canon lawyer nor a theologian. Having said that, I can read a little so I think I understand what the 1917 Code of Canon Law declares in canon 1325, along with the punishment in canon 2314 for those who commit the delict (crime) of heresy, along with apostasy and schism. Read them then tell us what you conclude.
You need to also add to your defense of the SSPX the superior work of Fr. Denzil Meuli (1926-2019), a recognized elite canon lawyer among canon lawyers. In fine, pertinent sections of a 2001 letter written to a member of the Church by Fr. Meuli contains an in-depth analysis that demonstrates why the 1988 "excommunications" were null and void upon pronouncement, and note that no one has ever refuted his analysis so far as is known. Also note that Fr. Meuli's analysis can be broken down into 2 parts, and the second part is virtually the same as what you have recently argued, but the first part is quite different, and it demonstrates how Pope John Paul II seriously erred in a flawed application of canon law, and in doing so as he did in the manner that he did, his declaration of excommunications was a mere fiction.
Moreover, in the 2009 so-called "lifting of the excommunications" by Pope Benedict XVI, the document employs some of the arguments/terminology found in Meuli's analysis, and Pope Benedict did not "lift" the excommunications as is wrongly reported; he declared them to be null and void, as if they never existed. This suggests that Pope Benedict may very well have known that the 1988 "excommunications" were invalid, but of course he would not come right out and say that.

I attend FSSP church but I am disturbed by the division. FSSP doesn’t seem to take a stand, they are quiet and want to be under the radar. That’s my perception.
This is the core problem with the SSPX argument: they claim a “state of necessity,” decide for themselves when Rome is wrong, and then use Rome’s opposition as proof that the necessity exists. That becomes circular and self-authorizing very quickly.

I am not against the SSPX Declaration. However, the overriding issue for me and CMRI Sedevacantists is this: The SSPX says that ALL of the post-Vatican II popes are all valid. The Church prior to Pacelli definitively taught that heretics, schismatics, and apostates are NOT Catholics and not members of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. Such men can NEVER become valid popes. That said, the SSPX says that these very men must be recognized and commemorated in the Canon of the Mass. So heretics can be valid popes according to the Society. If they hold this position, it necessarily makes them schismatics and heretics for holding to the condemned heresy of Gallicanism. That makes the Society and their followers heretical and schismatic. That is the only logical outcome. WHY will the SSPX not explain how their position is not in contradiction to the dogmatic teaching of the Church!? This unanswered question is why I eventually left the SSPX and went over to the CMRI. Additionally, the SSPX recognizes the Novus Ordo Mass as valid but illicit- whatever that means. And, for the icing on the theological cake, they also recognize Novus Ordo Holy Orders as valid. How can the SSPX honestly teach the laity that a heretic is a valid pope, but then tell the same laity that they must recognize a heretic as pope and at the same time RESIST him?! The Vatican is now using this heresy of R&R against the Society by declaring upcoming excommunications because they’re resisting Peter- the same man the Society says is most definitely pope! Someone please explain to me how I could possibly support the SSPX using actual Church teachings to refute what I am saying. I’m waiting…
The SSPX takes the very simple and straightforward position that it is not in a position, or lacks authority, to decide whether or not the men occupying the chair of Peter are antipopes or not. Indeed, if they did so, they would very much appear as if they were establishing a parallel hierarchy to the one that, at least on paper (materially), has valid apostolicity. They acknowledge what everyone can see: there is a problem, and that this is the crisis in the Church. But their solution is not to judge for themselves which members of the hierarchy should be declared inside and outside the Church. Their stated mission has always been to preserve Tradition until the crisis in the Church can be resolved. They are not REQUIRED to decide or declare that anyone is not the Pope when the apostolicity of their offices reasonably appears to be valid. Their perceived "resistance" is simply an exercise of the virtue of obedience that prevents them from conforming to the teachings of those ostensibly in authority when those teachings are at odds with the known higher authority. Something, by the way, every single Sedevacantist at one point in time decided as well. The Sede just took the extra step to declare the Chair of Peter vacant, as a result of their analysis, to retroactively justify their perceived disobedience.

There is no “Sedes” group and ignorant commentators are using an invented category as a shibboleth. A lot of people recognize JPII as a valid, if flawed, Pope while denouncing the patently illicit election of Leo. Circumstances vary. There might be someone who considers all post Pope Pius XII pontiffs as invalid, but I have never met him.

As a Catholic we must respect the Chair of Peter. As a Catholic we may not always agree with, nor are we required to, if and when that pope is deviating from the Magisterium of the Church as handed to Peter and ultimately to the apostles.
To give an example countries have presidents, kings etc…..As a citizen of that country you may not like who is your leader but you still must respect the office!

Yes, the Vatican II “popes” all supported and enforced Vatican II and everything that came out of it. None of them over the past sixty plus years did anything to stop or reverse it. The SSPX, unfortunately, prays for antipopes in the Canon of the Mass. Doing so makes their priests schismatics for praying for a heretic who, according to defined Church doctrine, can never be a valid pope. Each Mass a Society priest offers in this way is a mortal sin on the priest. The error is already a condemned heresy (R&R) which is a form of Gallicanism. SSPX will not admit that Sede view is correct. That is the sad part. They (and the laity who attend their chapels think that Lefebvre is a saint. However, Lefebvre never went to the logical and only conclusion that all of the post Vatican II popes were all antipopes. He even expelled several of his priests who pleaded with him to rightly take the Sedevacantist’s position. That was Lefebvre’s catastrophic error. It has plagued the Society since its inception.
What is R/R heresy?
Recognize & Resist. It it a form of the condemned heresy of Gallicanism. The SSPX insists that heretics can be materially popes without the gift of papal infallibility. This too is a heresy. The big question is "when does error become heresy". The R&R position is definitely not Catholic. The post-VII popes (or 'popes') did not teach the Catholic faith, at least, the Catholic faith whole and entire.
But were they heretics? Did they decide to substitute "something else" for the Catholic rule of faith, or were they deceived into believing the Catholic rule of faith was other than what it was?
It is absolutely clear and self-confessed that Idolator George and Idolator Bob are heretics. For Benedict XVI / Ratzinger (both before and after the council) and JPII the answer is less clear; I don't know enough about Paul VI to comment.
Benedict in particular is famous for his "hermeneutic of continuity"... which would appear on the surface to prove that he believed he was 'developing' and not 'replacing'.
I will be honest. I was shocked.
This makes the charge of heresy against even the JP2 pontificate even more serious. And this further strengthens the case for a declaration that we are dealing with *sede vacante*.
While I have personally avoided that *declaration*, one cannot avoid the knowledge or agreeability of the possibility of sede vacante under this circumstance, though one would defer judgement to ecclesial authority for such a pronouncement.

I am not a Canon lawyer nor a theologian. Having said that, I can read a little so I think I understand what the 1917 Code of Canon Law declares in canon 1325, along with the punishment in canon 2314 for those who commit the delict (crime) of heresy, along with apostasy and schism. You need to also add to your defense of the SSPX the superior work of Fr. Denzil Meuli (1926-2019), a recognized elite canon lawyer among canon lawyers. In fine, pertinent sections of a 2001 letter written to a member of the Church by Fr. Meuli contains an in-depth analysis that demonstrates why the 1988 "excommunications" were null and void upon pronouncement, and note that no one has ever refuted his analysis so far as is known. Also note that Fr. Meuli's analysis can be broken down into 2 parts, and the second part is virtually the same as what you have recently argued, but the first part is quite different, and it demonstrates how Pope John Paul II seriously erred in a flawed application of canon law, and in doing so as he did in the manner that he did, his declaration of excommunications was a mere fiction.
Moreover, in the 2009 so-called "lifting of the excommunications" by Pope Benedict XVI, the document employs some of the arguments/terminology found in Meuli's analysis, and Pope Benedict did not "lift" the excommunications as is wrongly reported; he declared them to be null and void, as if they never existed. This suggests that Pope Benedict may very well have known that the 1988 "excommunications" were invalid, but of course he would not come right out and say that.

How can we help the SSPX? It saddens me but I am helpless in what Rome is doing. Are we allowed to help financially by donating to them?
I attend FSSP church but I am disturbed by the division. FSSP doesn’t seem to take a stand, they are quiet and want to be under the radar. That’s my perception.
This is the core problem with the SSPX argument: they claim a “state of necessity,” decide for themselves when Rome is wrong, and then use Rome’s opposition as proof that the necessity exists. That becomes circular and self-authorizing very quickly.
At some point, an “emergency” that lasts generations starts looking less like Catholic obedience and more like a parallel ecclesial system.
